FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)

Q: What makes Westwood Physical Therapy Clinic stand out from other clinics in the area?
A: We provide personalized 1:1 care by the physical therapists and physical therapy assistants through the entire duration of the rehabilitation phase. We also keep your referring physician updated on your progress and current functional status through the duration of your treatment from the initial evaluation to discharge.

Q: Do I need to see a physician before I can come to physical therapy?
A: We are able to evaluate and treat patients without a physician’s referral in the state of Utah according to the Physical Therapy Practice Act. However, the need for a physician’s referral to participate in physical therapy is dependent on each insurance company’s policy.

Q: What do I need to bring to my first physical therapy appointment?
A: Please bring your driver’s license, insurance card, physician’s referral & claim information for industrial and auto cases. Please bring a pair of shorts if you will be seen for your knees or hips.

Q: How long does a therapy session last?
A: The length of the treatment depends on the severity of the problem. The average treatment session is approximately 1 hour and the initial evaluation may be slightly longer due to paperwork.

Q: How many times will I have to come to physical therapy before I’m better?
A: The frequency and duration of your therapy appointments will depend on the problem and its severity. Our goal is to get you back to your regular activities as soon as possible. Your physical therapist will make a treatment plan specifically for you with your goals in mind.

Q: What is the wait time to get an appointment with a physical therapist?
A: The policy of Westwood Physical Therapy Clinic is to schedule your first appointment within 2 business days of your call.

Q: Will I have the same physical therapist at every visit?
A: It is our policy to schedule you with the same physical therapist or team of therapists for each of your visits. Occasionally, a different therapist may fill in if your therapist is out of the office.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: We request that you give us 24 hour notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. You may be charged a $25 fee for not adhering to our policy.

Q: Can physical therapy help with my headaches?
A: In general we have been successful in treating and diminishing headaches. A physical therapist will thoroughly evaluate you to determine the root cause of the headaches and create a treatment plan specifically designed for you.

Q: I’m having trouble running because of knee pain, what can physical therapy do for me?
A: A physical therapist will examine you thoroughly to determine if your knee pain is secondary to faulty mechanics or if there is structural damage. We can design a patient specific program to correct any weakness, tightness or walking abnormalities which may be causing your knee pain. If we determine that your knee has structural damage, we can suggest the most appropriate physician for you.
